About CDAS

Picture
The Cochrane and District Agricultural Society (CDAS) began in 1910 however it became a not-for-profit agricultural society chartered with the Government of Alberta in 1973.  CDAS is governed by a volunteer Board of 12 Directors and operates under provincially approved Constitution and By-Laws.

Some Interesting Stats:

·         More than 50,000 participants and spectators pass through CDAS gates each year to attend such events that range from the RCMP Musical Ride to the Zombie Survivor Race and Calgary High School Athletic Association Cross Country meets, from the Cochrane Fair to Jackpot team Roping and Barrel Racing, from outdoor theme weddings to indoor Used Tack Sales…….and the list goes on and on.

·         CDAS partners with many different organizations such as Cochrane Search & Rescue, Cochrane Lions Club, Cochrane Humane Society, Bearspaw Exhibition Association, Kajali Bibi (Caring Grandmothers), Alberta Horse Industry, Alberta Equestrian Federation, Calgary High School Athletic Association, Olds College and many, many others.

What Goes On at the Ag Society?

Throughout the last few years, CDAS has experienced a tremendous increase in the usage and diversity of the facilities. On many weekends, there have been a variety of venues in use for a range of activities.  For example, while the active Cochrane BMX Club was running their regular practice event, a Pace and Chase English jumping competition will be unfolding on the upper cross country course, an Extreme Cowboy Alberta competition will be going on in the indoor arena, and a youth roping clinic will be progressing in the outdoor arena.  At other times, the entire facility has been booked by a single organization such as the Zombie Survivor Race, (a cross- country running & unique obstacle race), or the Cochrane Horse Trials 3 day eventing committee.

Although weekends are the busiest time for the Ag Society Park, evenings will find dog agility training going on one night, 4H children and their ponies another night, riding pass holders and their families another evening as well as a variety of clinics such as Equine First Aid, Colt Starting, Equine Therapy, etc. etc.

As an organization, CDAS is very proud of the wide range of community events being held at this facility as well as the strong youth and family focus that most of the events have provided.
